A Google Business Profile that doesn't show up, or one that suddenly disappears, usually has an ordinary cause. Most can be found in a few minutes if you check things in the right order. Work down this list before you contact Google or start over.
First, check how you're searching
Search for your exact business name on Google and on Google Maps, ideally on a phone with location turned on and while signed out, or in a private browser window. Signed-in owners often see their own profile differently from customers.
If your profile appears for your name but not for a search like "plumber near me", the profile exists and is working. The problem is ranking, not visibility, and that is covered further down.
Not showing at all: the common causes
- It isn't verified yet. Until verification finishes, the profile may not appear publicly.
- It's brand new. Even after verification, a new profile can take days or a few weeks to show up reliably in Maps.
- There's a duplicate. Two profiles for the same business confuse Google, and one or both may be hidden. Search for older listings under past names or phone numbers.
- Key details were just edited. Changes to the name, address or category can be held for review, and the profile may drop out until the review finishes.
Showing for your name but not in the map results
Google ranks local results on three things: relevance (how well the profile matches the search), distance (how close the business is to the person searching) and prominence (how well known it is, including reviews and links). A profile that is correct but has no reviews and a vague category will lose to established competitors nearby.
- Set the primary category to the most specific match for what you do.
- Fill in services, hours, description and photos completely.
- Ask every happy customer for a review, and reply to each one.
- Make sure your name, phone number and website are identical on your website and every other listing.

Suspended or disabled: what usually triggers it
Google can disable a profile it believes breaks its guidelines. The most common triggers are:
- Extra keywords in the business name, such as adding "Best Plumber Nyack" to the real name.
- An address customers can't visit, such as a P.O. box or a virtual office.
- Showing a home address when you don't serve customers there. A business that travels to customers should hide its address and list a service area instead.
- More than one profile for the same business at the same location.
- A website, phone number or category that doesn't match what the business actually does.
How to get a suspended profile back
Fix the cause first. Then file a reinstatement request through Google's Business Profile help pages, and include evidence that the business is real and matches the profile: a photo of your signage or vehicle, a business registration or license, or a utility bill in the business name.
Don't create a new profile to replace a suspended one. It creates a duplicate, which is one of the things that gets profiles suspended in the first place, and it throws away the reviews on the original.
